Over time the layers within a slate or tile can begin to separate or split apart. This is known as shailing, and it is usually caused by age and exposure to the elements. Shailing weakens the slate or tile and leaves it prone to cracking, breaking or leaking.
Re-roofing involves stripping off the old slates or tiles and the timber battens, fitting new breathable felt, then re-slating or re-tiling over new battens using a slate or tile of your choice.
Before the work starts we discuss the condition of your roof with you and recommend the products we suggest, including the material, the colour of your choice and the size of tile. We also use a wide range of new natural slates in different colours and sizes. We use top quality materials and have extensive knowledge of roof coverings.

We have extensive experience in tiling work using both concrete and clay roofing products, and there is a large choice of tile profile, texture and colour available. We advise you on the right tile to suit your property, giving a long lasting waterproof system that will complement your home for years to come.
Slating
Slating work is carried out with the best quality slates, supplied directly from the slate mines. Each slate is individually holed, dressed and graded into the levels instructed by the manufacturers.
We can also offer Eternit slates, fibre cement roofing slates made from synthetic fibres. They are an alternative to natural slate and offer a cost effective, lightweight and consistent roofing solution with a slate like appearance.

Leadwork
Leadwork and flashings
Leadwork and flashing can deteriorate over time and allow water to penetrate. It is needed to ensure watertight protection at vulnerable roof junctions, including abutments, chimneys, valleys, roof edges and parapets.
ABM use only milled lead, which is superior to other lead on the market, and it is installed to current industry standards with the correct laps and fixings.
The lead directs water away from internal structures and so prevents ingress. Flashings are fully integrated with the roof coverings and the masonry to prevent future water ingress.
